Today’s featured tech tip….
How to make a Facebook post ‘Shareable’
Have you ever posted something to your Facebook Timeline that you wanted your friends to share, only to discover that your post didn’t have a “Share” button for them to click/tap?
Well, there’s a reason why some posts have a “Share” button on them and others don’t.
If you have the “Audience” of a post set to “Friends” the only people who will be able to see that post are the people on your Friends List, and everyone on your Friends List will be able to see it by default.
Therefore there would be no reason for your friends to be able to share the post since all of your friends can see it anyway by default.
However, if the audience of the post is set to “Public” that means anyone on Facebook can see it, in which case it would make sense for your friends to be able to share it if your goal is to widen the audience to include people you aren’t friends with.
What it all boils down to is this…
If you want your friends to be able to share one of your posts you’ll have to set that post’s audience to “Public”. Make that one simple change and the “Share” button will magically (and immediately) appear on the post.
Just follow the steps below to change a post’s audience from “Friends” to “Public”:
1 – Click/tap the three dots in the top-right corner of the post you want to make shareable.
2 – If you’re using Facebook in a web browser on a computer, click Edit audience. If you’re using the Facebook mobile app, tap Edit privacy.
3 – Select Public.
That’s all there is to it. You’re done. Now that post should have a shiny new “Share” button.
And now, one last thing…
If you prefer keeping most of your posts limited to just the people on your Friends List you’ll want to use this tip only when you have a good reason for letting just anyone and everyone see the post.
Always remember that changing the audience for a post from “Friends” to “Public” will allow literally anyone and everyone on Facebook to see it.
