Q&A: How do I clean up and optimize an older PC?

Posted on February 7, 2024

Question from Vicky: I got my old laptop out of the closet this morning to see if it still works. I’ve forgotten exactly how old it is but it’s running windows 10.

It finally booted up into Windows but it seemed to be running very sluggish.

At first, it wouldn’t connect to the wireless or open my Chrome browser. I checked to see how full the hard drive is. Not quite 50% is used.

I restarted it again and it connected to the network and loaded Chrome, but it’s still very sluggish.

I know how to shut the computer down with the mouse so I don’t really need to use the Power button at all once the laptop has booted into Windows. Is there any way to disable it?  [Read more…]

I spend several hours every day working with a variety of computers so I’m always looking for ways to work more efficiently.

Using the keyboard to accomplish common tasks saves me a ton of time because I rarely have to take my hands off the keyboard.

In a nutshell, keyboard shortcuts let you accomplish tasks that would often take several mouse clicks with just a single tap of a key (or key combination).  [Read more…]

Posted on November 20, 2023

Question from Kyle: I used the Clipboard History for a while with no problems whatsoever, but the last round of Windows Updates broke it.

Now when I press the Windows+V key nothing happens. The box with the stored Clipboard items doesn’t even pop up.
