Q&A: Can you remove app suggestions from the Windows Start Menu?

Posted on November 19, 2023

Question from Nell:  Starting with Windows 10 I’ve been seeing recommendations for new apps almost every time I open the Start Menu, and I’m also seeing them in Windows 11.

Is there something I can do to stop these suggestions from being shown? They’re really annoying!

Thanks in advance for your help.  [Read more…]

Q&A: Can Windows 11’s roll-back period be extended past 10 days?

Posted on November 16, 2023

Question from Robbie:  A couple of days ago I updated my PC to Windows 11 expecting to have 30 days to change my mind like we had when Windows 10 came out.

But then I found out the window for rolling Windows 11 back to Windows 10 is only 10 days, not 30.

The problem I have is I’m going out of town on business tomorrow and I won’t be back until after the end of the month.

By the time I return the 10 day roll-back period will have expired and I’ll be stuck with Windows 11 even if I end up not liking it.

Is there any way to extend the Windows 11 roll-back period to longer than 10 days (to something like a month)? [Read more…]

Q&A: How can I find out how much RAM Windows is using?

Posted on November 11, 2023

Question from Devon:  I have an HP gaming desktop computer with Windows 10 on it.

I recently started getting a “Your computer is low on memory” warning that pops up on a regular basis.

I always do a fresh restart on the PC when it pops up but the warning comes back after a couple of hours.

This machine has 16GB of RAM in it and I don’t run that many programs at a time so I shouldn’t be getting this warning.

I only get this error if I’m running my Firefox browser, even if there are no other programs running.

How can I find out how much RAM Windows is actually using? [Read more…]

Question from Danny:  I recently bought my first Windows PC after using nothing but Macs for years, and something is driving me crazy.

Every time I try to install a new program a stupid “User Account Control” box pops up asking for permission to make changes to the system.

I find this extremely annoying since I wouldn’t have tried to install the program if I didn’t want it.

My question is how do I disable those annoying User Account Control pop-ups?

Q&A: Should I buy a laptop with Windows 11 S?

Posted on October 7, 2023

Question from Amber:  I’ve been shopping online for a new laptop and I’ve noticed that a lot of the lowest-priced Windows laptops have Windows 11 S installed on them.

I’d never heard of Windows 11 S before I started shopping for a new laptop. And now I’m really confused.

I have a couple of questions for you:  [Read more…]
