Question from Ben:  My aunt recently sold her house and moved to another state.

Before she left she gave us a used, but working Acer Aspire U5710 computer with Windows 10 on it.

She said she didn’t want to pack it up and move it because she was wanting to buy a new computer anyway.

I tried setting it up for my daughter to use but it’s asking for a password. I don’t know the password and the one my aunt gave me doesn’t work.

Is there any way to reset the password on this computer? [Read more…]

Q&A: How can I prevent Windows 10 from hiding the scroll bars in Windows apps?

Posted on June 9, 2021

Question from Tammy:  Every time I load a Windows app on my Windows 10 laptop the scroll bar over on the right remains hidden until I move my mouse over it.

This happens every time I use any app I have downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

I have a health issue that makes it hard for me to control the placement of the mouse so I have trouble activating the scroll bar.

Can you tell me how to keep Windows from hiding the scroll bars?

Question from Eleanor:  My eyesight isn’t what it used to be Rick, and now that I have a new computer with Windows 10 I sometimes have trouble seeing the mouse pointer.

Years ago my daughter helped me increase the size of the mouse pointer on my old Windows 7 PC, but she’s no longer here to help me do it for Windows 10.

Can you tell me how to do it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

How to lock your PC just by walking away from it

Posted on April 12, 2021

Do you lock your PC every time you leave the room to keep prying eyes from seeing what you’re working on or to prevent others from messing with your computer?

If you only use a computer at home the answer is probably no, but if you use one at work chances are you do.

In fact, many companies actually require their employees to lock their PCs when they leave the room for whatever reason.

If you work for one of those strict employers you probably worry that you might forget to lock your machine sometime and end up getting reprimanded for the lapse.

Well guess what? Windows 10 has a feature called Dynamic Lock that will automatically lock your PC every time you get up and leave the room.
