Question from Rhonda: I bought a new laptop a while back and my son installed DriverUpdate by Slimware Utilities and several other programs on it to keep it running smoothly.
Everything was fine until the other day when I downloaded Malwarebytes.
Every time I run Malwarebytes it flags DriverUpdate as malware and tries to remove it.

Over the years I’ve worked on lots of computers that exhibited all the classic signs of a malware infection.
And as you might expect, many of the owners of those machines insisted that the problem couldn’t possibly be malware because they regularly scan their systems with antivirus programs.
But when I ran my own scans on those systems, I often discovered that they were indeed infected, some of them with dozens of viruses, spyware objects, malicious toolbars and other digital nasties.

Question from Carl: I was listening to talk radio the other day and I heard a guy say that the strongest encryption methods in use today are so strong that they will never, ever be broken.
The host didn’t challenge him on that. In fact, he seemed to agree with him. I have my doubts though.
What do you think? Is current encryption technology so good that no one will ever be able to break it?

Question from Phillip W.: Rick, I have a Dell laptop with Windows 7 on it and I need your help fixing a problem I’m having with it.
I downloaded a game from a free games website and now some of the keys on my keyboard produce strange characters when I press them.
The letters look normal but they have various punctuation marks added to them almost like I’m typing in a foreign language. How can I fix this?

Ransomware is a very dangerous type of malware, but luckily most new strains are quickly mitigated thanks to the extra resources the antivirus companies have dedicated to eradicating them.
But that being said, the WannaCry Ransomware cyberworm is still going strong years after it was first discovered.
