How to prevent Google+ users from emailing you via Gmail

Posted on January 13, 2014

gmailGoogle is currently in the process of rolling out a new feature that lets any Google+ user who follows you send you emails via Gmail – even if you aren’t following them back. In fact, they don’t even need to know your email address!

Some folks might be fine with it, but I really don’t much care for the possibility of getting emails from people that I don’t even know. If you don’t either, you can easily turn it off and keep your inbox off-limits to your Google+ followers. Here’s how:  [Read more…]

Google completes first PageRank update Since February 2013

Posted on December 7, 2013

google-pr-logoYesterday, Google completed their first Toolbar PageRank Update since February 2013.

Many bloggers who had created their blogs early in the year had been wondering why the PR of their blogs’ home pages were still stuck at zero, but now they can finally see where their sites stand in the eyes of Google.

I’ve searched high and low for a way to turn the PR indicator on but I can’t find one. Has Google decided to remove it completely or am I just overlooking the place where you activate it?

Posted on January 21, 2013

yellow-pagesFor decades we kept the ‘Yellow Pages’ next to the phone for those times when we needed to look up the phone number or address of a local business, but times have changed. Now, thanks to Google we can find that information with just a mouse click and a few keystrokes. Here’s how:

Start by typing the following information into Google’s search box, in this order and without the commas: Business Name, City or Town, State. If you live in a small town with just one business by that name, the Google Plus listing for that particular establishment will pop right up.  [Read more…]
