Warning: Your privacy settings can’t guarantee your privacy on Facebook

Posted on February 4, 2024

“Privacy Warnings” of one type or another have been making the rounds on Facebook ever since the site first came into existence.

While most of those warnings range from completely worthless to downright malicious, a few of them actually have some merit.

Privacy is indeed a serious concern on Facebook, but many folks understandably attempt to attack the problem from the wrong angle.

Warning: Be careful about what you share with your Facebook friends

Posted on January 29, 2024

As you probably know, Facebook asks for some pretty sensitive information when someone signs up for an account.

For example, among other things they request our address, phone number and birthdate.

But truth be told, getting a new device doesn’t mean you’ll need a new Facebook account because your account isn’t tied to any specific device.  [Read more…]

Scam alert: Those ads for massive SSDs on Facebook are scams

Posted on January 14, 2024

If you’ve been on Facebook lately you’ve probably seen sponsored posts advertising incredibly large, but portable solid state drives (SSDs) for sale.

Oddly, these ads don’t mention a ridiculously low price as most fraudulent Facebook ads do. They simply say the drives are 50% off.

I guess they figure that “savings” plus the fact that the drive has an enormous amount of storage will be enough to draw people in.  [Read more…]
