Question from Ethan: Hi, Rick. I recently bought my first Windows computer (a used Acer laptop) after using nothing but Macs for years.
I’m left-handed and I’ve found using the left and right mouse buttons to be very awkward.
Someone told me that you can switch the functions of the mouse buttons in Windows so left-handed people can click the primary button with their index fingers.
Can you tell me how to make the switch?
Rick’s answer: You sure can reverse the functions of the mouse buttons in both Windows 10 and Windows 11, Ethan.
And it matters not which of those versions is on your laptop since the procedure is virtually the same for both. Just follow the steps below:
1 – Press the Windows+S key combination to open a search box.
2 – Type the word mouse settings into the search box, then select Mouse settings from the list of search results.
3 – Depending on your Windows version, click either Additional mouse options or Additional mouse settings.
4 – Check the box beside Switch primary and secondary buttons.
5 – Click OK.
That’s all there is to switching the functions of the left and right mouse buttons in Windows 10, Ethan. Good luck!
Bonus tip: This post explains how to select multiple items with just two mouse clicks.
