Today’s quick tech tip….
Q&A: How do I stop Edge from giving me suggestions in the address bar?
Question from Claire: I’m the office manager for both my church and the Christian school we operate.
A bad storm took out my computer and the church bought me a new HP desktop PC with Windows 11 on it to replace it.
The problem I have is every time I type something into the Edge address bar it gives me a list of suggestions, some of which just aren’t appropriate for this environment.
Can you tell me how to block those suggestions?
Rick’s answer: I’ll be happy to help you with this, Claire.
The suggestions you’re seeing are called “Search Suggestions”, and lots of folks find them quite useful.
However, I can definitely understand why you want to disable them on your work PC.
Luckily, that’s very easy to do. Just follow these steps:
1 – Open the Edge browser.
2 – Click the three dots icon in the top-right corner of the Edge window, then select Settings from the menu.
3 – In the left-hand pane, click Privacy, search and services.
4 – In the right-hand pane, scroll down to the “Services” section and click Address bar and search.
Note: You should now see three boxes of options in the right-hand pane.
5 – Toggle both options in the top box to Off (the sliders should turn from blue to white after you click them).
6 – Click the X at the top of the “Settings” tab to close it.
