Today’s quick tech tip….
This is the handiest tool on every device you own
Do you own a Windows PC? How about a Mac or Linux box?
Or perhaps you have an iPhone, iPad or Android device?
Well guess what? There’s one common tool on every one of those devices that’s so incredibly useful that it truly deserves an award.
And what is this awesomely amazing tool? It’s the ubiquitous, but frequently ignored Search box.
I know you’re probably thinking my answer was a letdown after such a glowing build-up, but I honestly don’t think so.
Consider the following…
Want to quickly find a text message conversation you had a few weeks ago about a party you’re planning to host? Type a keyword or two about that party into your Text Messaging app’s search box and it’ll come right up.
Example: Search for the words John’s party in iMessages or WhatsApp.
Or how about a Gmail message you received from your sweet cousin Louise providing directions to the next family reunion venue.
Example: Open Gmail and type either Louise or the word reunion into the Search box.
Need to find some obscure setting that’s buried layers-deep in your smartphone’s Settings app? Type the name or purpose of the setting into the Setting’s app’s Search box.
Example: Search for night shift in your iPhone’s settings.
Or maybe you need to quickly change your Windows PC’s sleep settings.
Example: Click the Start button, then type the word sleep.
Bottom line: Virtually every device you own will have Search boxes in both its apps and Settings tools. With a little practice you’ll be able to use them to quickly find whatever it is you’re looking for.
