Today’s quick tech tip….
Q&A: Which brand of USB flash drives is the best?
Question from Stephanie: I’ve noticed that a lot of your tips involve the use of a USB flash drive.
I have several of these drives but I’ve had trouble out of them in the past?
Can you recommend a really good brand?
Rick’s answer: That a great question Stephanie, and the answer you’ll get will vary depending on who you ask and what their experiences have been with various brands.
In other words, the answer to that question is subjective, meaning it will be based on the respondent’s personal opinion.
You asked for mine, so here you go…
I’ve used many different brands of flash drives over the years and the ones that seemed to serve me best were made by SanDisk and Samsung, with no discernable difference between the two in terms of quality and durability.
In my humble opinion either of those two brands would be a great choice.
The most important thing to remember about flash drives in general is they are less reliable than hard drives and SSDs. That’s why I always recommend backing your most important files up onto other media.
As always, redundancy is your friend.
I hope this is a help to you, Stephanie. I know it probably wasn’t the kind of answer you were looking for, but it’s the best one I could come up with.
