Korean electronics giant Samsung has decided to stop making their new Galaxy Note 7 smartphones for good and recall ALL of the phones that are currently in use – even the replacement phones from the original recall.
As you probably know, the high-end Galaxy Note 7 got off to a very rocky start when some of the phones began over-heating and catching fire almost immediately after the new phone hit the market.
Samsung quickly recalled all of the phones that had been sold to date and provided free replacements for them, but then the replacement phones started over-heating as well.
That led to an avalanche of bad press and disappointed customers, which in turn caused the company to lose billions of dollars in stock value.
Apparently Samsung finally realized that it would be best to simply halt production of the beleaguered phones altogether.
Samsung is a dominant player in the smart phone market, but it’s hard to see how they can retain that position with all the ill will and bad publicity they have earned due to the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.
I have always liked Samsung products but this episode has me wondering if I will ever feel confident in recommending them again.
