Question from Donna R.: I know this is probably an unusual question Rick, but is there a router that can be set up using just a smart phone?
I remember setting up all the routers I’ve had before by connecting them to a computer. But my family no longer uses computers, only smart phones and a couple of iPads.
If you don’t know of a router that can be set up without a computer I can always borrow my sister’s laptop, but she lives over 2 hours away!
I’ll be grateful for any advice you can give me. Thanks for your help!
Rick’s answer: Your situation is far from unique Donna. There are plenty of households that contain mobile devices but no traditional computers, and the router manufacturers are more than happy to provide them with routers that can easily be set up without using a computer.
There are lots of great routers on the market that you’d be able to set up with your phone, but there’s one model that I really like.
The TP-LINK Archer C7 AC1750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router (#ad) isn’t the fastest router on the market today, but it’s one of the very best in my opinion.
TP-LINK’s fantastic (and free) Tether app will allow you to quickly set up your Wi-Fi network using most any up-to-date iOS or Android device, which is exactly what you’re looking for.
This router also offers a ton of useful features and plenty enough speed to handle the average family’s Internet data usage requirements.
If durability is a concern, it’s also well-built and very reliable and I believe it would serve your family well for several years. It’s backed by a 2 year warranty.

I hope this helps Donna. Good luck!
