Question from Stephen Y.: I recently upgraded my computer from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 and I keep getting this message whenever I’m on the Desktop:
SecureBoot isn’t Configured Correctly
I’ve tried everything I can think of and I can’t find a way to fix this. Can you tell me what I need to do to get rid of this annoying message?
Rick’s answer: Stephen, long story short, this is a bug in the Windows 8.1 software. There is no setting that you can change in the Control Panel or elsewhere that will fix this issue. There is an easy fix however…
Microsoft has released a “hotfix” that will permanently remove the ‘SecureBoot isn’t Configured Correctly’ message from your Windows 8.1 Desktop. Here’s how to use it:
1 – If your system is running the 32 bit version of Windows 8.1, visit this page. If you’re running the 64 bit version, visit this page instead.
Note: If you aren’t sure whether your Windows installation is 32 bit or 64 bit, this short tutorial explains how to find out.
2 – Once you are on the correct download page for your version of Windows, click the Download button.
3 – After you have downloaded and installed the hotfix, restart your PC. The ‘SecureBoot isn’t Configured Correctly’ message should now be gone.
That’s all there is to it Stephen. Good luck!
Update from Stephen: That did it Rick. Thanks a lot.
