Wikipedia just a got a lot easier to use thanks to ‘Page Previews’

Posted on April 24, 2018

Wikipedia is the world’s most popular online encyclopedia, and I use it fairly often when I’m looking for a quick overview of some topic.

If you use Wikipedia as well you’ve probably noticed that most of the articles on there contain quite a few links.

In fact, longer articles typically have dozens of them!

One of the most frustrating things about reading a Wikipedia article is having to click on all those links just to learn the context of the linked term.

Great news: Flickr is no longer owned by Yahoo!

Posted on April 23, 2018

The other day I wrote about how Oath’s new Terms of Service (TOS) totally trash your privacy if you use either Yahoo Mail or AOL Mail.

After that post went live I received several emails asking me about Flickr, Yahoo’s ultra-popular photo hosting service.  [Read more…]

Q&A: How do I switch from the desktop site to the mobile site on Twitter?

Posted on April 20, 2018

twitter-logoQuestion from Neilen G.:  I have a fairly small 11.6 inch laptop that I carry with me when I travel (and I travel frequently for work). I’ve found that it’s the perfect size to use when I’m on a plane.

Unfortunately, I also have an issue with my vision. Nothing major, but it’s bad enough to cause problems for me at times.

I usually don’t have a problem reading the screen when I’m using Twitter, but sometimes at night when my eyes are tired I find it hard to make out some of the text.

I tried typing Ctrl+ to make the text bigger but it ended up pushing some of the content off the sides of the screen.

I read somewhere that switching to the mobile Twitter site when my eyes are tired will make the text easier to read, but it didn’t give instructions for making the switch.

I guess my question is can you tell me how to switch to the Twitter mobile site on my laptop (and how to switch back when I need to)?

Do use Yahoo Mail or AOL Mail? If so, new changes to their TOS totally trash your privacy.

Posted on April 20, 2018

If you use Yahoo Mail or AOL Mail (or both) you should know that the latest changes they’ve made to their Terms of Service (TOS) completely trashes your privacy.

Both of those services are now owned by Oath, the media division of Verizon.

Oath has merged their two TOSs into one and made some pretty disturbing changes in the process.  [Read more…]
