Question from Anita: Rick, I use Internet Explorer 9 on a laptop running Windows 7 (I know, everyone tells me I need to use Chrome, but I like I.E.). I like having my photos open in I.E. when I click on them but I hate it when they open in a window that’s already open and replace the web page that’s already there.
I hope you can tell me how to make my photos always open in a brand new window when I click on them?
Rick’s answer: I can Anita, and here’s what you need to do…
Follow these steps if you have tabbed browsing disabled:
1 – Open Internet Explorer.
2 – Click Tools.
3 – Click Internet Options.
4 – Click Advanced.
5 – Uncheck the box beside Reuse windows for launching shortcuts.
6 – Click Ok.
If tabbed browsing is enabled, do this instead:
1 – Open Internet Explorer.
2 – Click Tools.
3 – Click Internet Options.
4 – Find the Tabs section and click Settings.
5 – Find the Open Links From Other Programs section and check the box beside A New Tab In The Current Window.
6 – Click Ok, then click Ok again.
From now on your photos will open in a brand new browser window or tab. And by the way, I prefer Chrome over I.E. as well, but I’m not going to try to talk you into switching browsers. We all have our favorites and if you like I.E., then by all means use I.E.! I do recommend that you upgrade to I.E. 10 however, and this post will explain why.
