Today’s featured tech tip….
Why you should review an app’s permissions before you install it
Do you always read the list of “permissions” an app requires before you install it on your device?
If you don’t, you really need to start.
Many apps require permissions that are quite intrusive, but totally unrelated to the task the app was created to perform.
It took me all of one minute to find an app to use as an example for this tip.
I went to Google and searched for the term “Flashlight App”.
The very first app to pop up in the list of search results requires these permissions.
Now why on earth would a simple “flashlight” app need to do all those things? All it has to do is turn on the camera’s flash LED.
Recommendation: Always carefully review the permissions an app “requires” before you install it.
If you see something on the list that seems way out of bounds ask yourself if there’s a reason why they want it. Trust me, there is.
