How to make Windows automatically place the mouse pointer on the default button

Today I’m going to tell you about a simple way to save a little time while you’re working with your Windows PC.

All you have to do is force Windows to automatically move the mouse pointer to the default button in every dialog box as soon as it opens up.

While you won’t always end up selecting the default option, in most cases you will. That’s why having the mouse pointer already on the default button is such a time saver. All you have to do is click the button to select that option.

As luck would have it, this is very easy to set up in both Windows 10 and Windows 11. Here’s how:

1 – Click the Start button to display the Start menu.

2 – Type the word mouse, then select Mouse Settings from the list of search results.

3 – If you’re using Windows 10, select Additional mouse options in the right-hand pane.

If you’re using Windows 11, select Additional mouse settings.

You should now see the “Mouse Properties” dialog box on the screen.

4 – Click Pointer Options.

5 – Check the box beside Automatically move pointer to the default button in a dialog box.

6 – Click Apply, then click OK.

That’s all there is to it. From now on, every time a dialog box appears the mouse pointer should be already on the default button, ready and waiting for you to click on it (if that’s the option you end up selecting, of course).
