Today’s Quick Tip….
How to add an Emergency Contact to your smartphone
Did you know you can designate one (or more) of the people on your Contacts List as an ‘Emergency Contact’?
That way if there’s ever an emergency anyone on the scene will be able to quickly use your phone to call your Emergency Contact(s) and tell them what’s going on.
Your Emergency Contact(s) will be available right from your phone’s login screen, enabling anyone with possession of your phone to call them even if they don’t know the password to unlock the phone.
This feature has no doubt saved countless lives and helped resolve numerous emergency situations over the years.
If you don’t have at least one Emergency Contact designated on your phone I strongly recommend that you add one right away. Just follow the steps below for your phone type…
If you have an iPhone:
1 – Open your Contacts List and tap the name of the person you wish to designate as an Emergency Contact.
2 – Scroll down and tap Add to Emergency Contacts.
3 – If that person has more than one phone number listed on their Contact info screen select the number you wish to use for their Emergency Contact number.
4 – Select the Relationship that best describes the relationship this person has with you. If none of the options match the actual relationship you can tap Add Custom Label and create your own.
5 – (Optional) Enter any other info that you wish to add for this entry.
6 – Tap Done.
If you have an Android phone:
1 – Tap the Settings icon (it looks like a ‘gear‘ or ‘cog‘).
2 – Scroll down and tap About phone.
3 – Tap Emergency information.
4 – Tap Add contact.
5 – Tap the name of the person you wish to designate as an Emergency Contact.
That’s all there is to it. From now on your Emergency Contact(s) can quickly be contacted via your own phone by anyone who happens to find your phone in an emergency situation.
