Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a great week!
As you already know, technology advances so rapidly these days that it’s hard to keep up with the latest developments in computer hardware, mobile devices, software and such.
But one thing that will never change is the need to safeguard our physical possessions, our privacy, and our identities from thieves and hackers. It’s sad, but the world is full of people who will steal from us and wreak havoc with our lives if we give them the opportunity.
With that in mind, here are a few simple tips for protecting yourself and your most precious assets in the new year:
First, I recommend taking steps to protect all the new Christmas gifts you and your family members just received by locking up your house when you leave. But before you do anything else, you should photograph all of those gifts for insurance purposes.
Next, I believe it’s wise to avoid posting the details of your upcoming vacations and business trips on social media.
Burglars are now using Facebook and Twitter to find victims who advertise the fact that they will be away from home during a vacation or business trip. Don’t allow yourself to become an easy target!
And speaking of out-of-town trips, having a security system installed will allow you to enjoy your trips without having to wonder if everything will be the way you left it when you return home.
You can install your own “security system” by placing a couple of IP cameras in strategic places on your property. That way you can monitor what’s going on at your home from anywhere in the world via the Internet.
Also, taking steps to make it appear that there’s someone at home even when there isn’t will go a long way towards deterring burglars from even approaching your house. This post contains a few tips that can help you do just that.
And finally, it’s important to remember that protecting your bank accounts, your credit card accounts and your identity is just as important as safeguarding your physical belongings. To that end, this post provides 12 New Years Resolutions that can help you protect yourself online.
