Are you confused about the entire “Net Neutrality” thing that’s been in the news recently? If so, you certainly aren’t alone.
The big advantage that the Internet has always had over other methods of media and content distribution is the way the playing field was level for everybody who wanted to play the game. All players had equal access at all times.
If you wanted to open an Internet-based business, all you had to do was build a website and then you could immediately start selling your goods or services to the public.
After you paid your your hosting company for your web hosting plan and your potential customers paid their ISPs for their Internet access, the digital connection between your “store” and your potential customers was in place. Your customers then had the same level of access to your website as the customers of web giants like eBay and Amazon.
But now some ISPs have started charging some web businesses more than others based upon the type of products or services they sell (high bandwidth products such as streaming video for example). In my opinion, that is a bad thing for consumers and small business owners.
