Many aspiring bloggers opt to set up their first blog using a hosted blogging platform like WordPress.com or Blogger due to their utter simplicity.
In my opinion, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that since that approach allows them to get their blogs up and running in as little as 3 minutes!
But what often happens for many recreational bloggers is they eventually realize that blogging can be more than a simple pastime. The problem is their hosted blogging platform of choice offers very little flexibility in the ways they can manage their blog and earn money from it.
If you happen to be one of those bloggers who dreams of taking your blog to the next level, the solution is obvious: Move your blog onto your own self-hosted WordPress blog!
Creating a self-hosted WordPress blog isn’t all that difficult, and you can do it yourself for an initial cost of just $1.00. You’ll find instructions for doing that in this post.
Once you have your self-hosted WordPress blog up and running, all you have to do is import the contents of your existing hosted blog into it. Below are instructions for moving your blog from either WordPress.com or Blogger.
If your blog is hosted at WordPress.com…
If your blog is currently hosted on WordPress.com, you’ll first need to export your blog’s contents to a file on your computer’s local hard drive. Here’s how:
1 – Log into your WordPress.com Dashboard.
2 – Click My Site>Settings>Export.
Next, you’ll need to import the blog contents from the file you just created into your self-hosted WordPress blog. Here’s how:
1 – Log into your new blog’s Dashboard with your username and password.
2 – Click Tools>Import.
3 – Click WordPress to install the WordPress Importer plugin.
4 – Activate the WordPress Importer plugin and run it. Follow the prompts to import your blog contents from the export file you created earlier.
If your blog is hosted at Blogger…
Moving a blog from Blogger to a self-hosted WordPress blog is even easier than moving one from WordPress.com because you don’t have to bother with exporting the existing blog contents to a file. Just follow these steps:
1 – Log into your new blog’s Dashboard with your username and password.
2 – Click Tools>Import.
3 – Click Blogger to install the Blogger Importer plugin.
4 – Activate the Blogger Importer plugin and run it. Follow the prompts to import your blog contents from Blogger to your new WordPress blog. Note: You’ll be prompted to log into your Google account in order to authorize the transfer.
That’s all there is to it. Now your WordPress.com or Blogger hosted blog has been transferred to your very own self-hosted WordPress blog. You can install a theme of your choosing and edit it to your liking, then place ads anywhere on your posts and pages in order to earn advertising revenue!
