Question from Vivian: My Internet went off last night and just to have something to do I opened the Klondike game in the Microsoft Solitaire Collection app.
The game loaded fine but a message popped up saying I could only play the game in Random mode since there was no Internet connection.
The Internet was back on when I woke up this morning so I tried to take the game off of Random so I could play it the way I usually do. But I can’t find a setting to change it.
Can you tell me how to get my Klondike game back off of Random mode?
Rick’s answer: Vivian, I encountered this very same issue back when I first started using the Microsoft Solitaire Collection app with Windows 10.
As you discovered, Microsoft has made it very easy to set the game to Random mode after it fails to detect an Internet connection but very difficult to find the setting to reverse it.
Luckily, it’s actually pretty easy once you know where to look.
Just follow the steps below and you’ll be playing Klondike at your preferred difficulty level in a jiffy:
1 – Launch the Microsoft Solitaire Collection app (but don’t click on Klondike just yet).
2 – Click the Menu icon in the top-left corner of the window.
3 – Click Game Options.
4 – Scroll down to the “Show Difficulty Selection” section and toggle the “Klondike” setting to On.
5 – Click the X in the top-right corner to exit the “Game Options” dialog.
6 – Click on the Klondike icon in the top-left corner of the window.
7 – Click the New Game icon in the lower-left corner of the window. You should now see the various game difficulty choices listed with “Random” at the very bottom.
8 – Select your preferred difficulty setting, then click the Play button.
That’s all there is to it. Your Klondike game should no longer be set to Random!
However, if you’re still having problems with your Microsoft Solitaire Collection, consider an online alternative. You can play Klondike Solitaire online for free on different gaming websites. You can even read up on the rules and strategies to play so you keep improving while you’re learning the ropes. It’s a good option for those who prefer a browser-based gaming environment.
Update from Vivian: Thanks Rick! Now I can win again! LOL
