Today’s featured tech tip….
Your antivirus says your PC is clean, but is it really?
If you’re like me you tend to get a warm and fuzzy feeling inside when your antivirus app finishes a scan and reports that no threats were found.
But guess what? Just because a scan failed to find any nasties hiding in the nooks and crannies of your system, that doesn’t actually mean there aren’t any stowed away in there.
As I explained here, no antivirus app is perfect. Even the very best apps can (and ultimately will) let a virus or some other form of malware slip through on occasion. That’s why you need to periodically dig a little deeper and get a second opinion.
Although you don’t need to do it after every malware scan, I recommend running at least one of the “on-demand” scans mentioned here about once a month or so.
If a scan with your regular antivirus AND one or more of those supplemental “on-demand” scans come up clean you can be reasonably sure that your PC really is malware-free.
