Today’s featured tech tip….
Try this first when a USB device refuses to work
If you’ve been using computers long enough to remember having to connect printers, modems and other devices via finicky RS-232 serial connections you can surely appreciate the true plug-n-play simplicity of the now ubiquitous USB ports.
But as awesome as USB ports are, there are times when they too can be a bit on the contrary side.
If you ever connect a USB device to your computer and it simply refuses to work, try this simple trick before you try anything else…
1 – Unplug the device from the USB port.
2 – Plug it into a different USB port.
Yeah, I know it sounds like a weird thing to do, but believe it or not that will often fix the problem.
For various inexplicable reasons, some USB ports simply don’t play well with some USB devices. And when that happens a simple USB port swap will usually take care of the problem in an instant and prevent you from having to waste time trying to troubleshoot the issue.
