Today’s featured tech tip….
How to find the exact model of your phone
If someone asks you what kind of phone you have you probably answer with something like ‘iPhone 14’ or ‘Moto G50’. After all, that’s what’s what was printed on the box when you bought it, right?
Truth be told, there can be (and usually will be) multiple models of the device that fall under that broad designation, and those various models might not be 100% compatible with different versions of the operating system and apps even though they all have the same name.
If you ever need to contact Tech Support for an issue you’re having with your phone, there’s a good chance you’ll be asked to provide the actual model number of the device that’s more specific than the general model that was printed on the box.
Luckily, it’s very easy to retrieve the exact model number of any iPhone or Android phone from the device’s Settings app. Just follow the steps below for the type of phone you have…
Note: The exact procedure for finding your phone’s model number might vary just a bit depending on the phone and the version of its installed operating system. Just use the steps below as a general guide.
If you have an iPhone:
1 – Tap the “gear” shaped Settings icon.
2 – Tap General.
3 – Tap About.
You should now see the phone’s actual model name and model number listed on the screen (along with a bunch of other handy info).
If you have an Android phone:
Note: The Settings screens can vary a bit among the various Android devices that are on the market today. Therefore you should just use the following as a general guide.
1 – Tap the “gear” shaped Settings icon.
2 – Scroll down and tap About phone.
3 – Tap Model (you might need to tap Advanced first in order to find it).
You should now see the phone’s actual model number listed on the screen (along with a bunch of other handy info).
That’s all there is to finding your phone’s exact model number.
Be aware that there are several other pieces of info listed on those pages that Tech Support might ask you to provide. If so, now you know how to quickly find them.
