Today’s Quick Tip….
How to change your password on a Mac
Unlike most other techies I’m not a huge fan of frequent password changes. I believe it makes more sense to simply choose a strong password from the get-go and then do everything you can to protect it.
But that being said, situations arise at times that do require the selection of a new password.
In the past I’ve explained how to change the login password on Windows machines, but not a Mac.
Luckily, Apple has made it quite easy to change the password to your user account on a MacBook or Mac desktop machine. Just follow the steps below:
Note: This procedure is for changing the password you use to log into your user account on a Mac desktop computer or MacBook. The process for changing the password for your Apple ID is completely different. Just thought I should make that clear up-front.
1 – Using the existing password, log into the user account you want to change the password for.
2 – Click the Apple icon in the top left-corner of the screen.
3 – Click System Preferences.
4 – Click Users & Groups.
5 – In the left-hand pane, select the user account you want to change the password for, then click the Change Password button over on the right.
6 – Type the old password into the “Old Password” field.
7 – Type your new password into both the “New Password” and “Verify” fields.
8 – (optional, but recommended) – Type a password hint (and don’t forget to lie when you choose one).
9 – Click the Change Password button.
10 – If prompted to do so, enter your new password into the pop-up box to confirm the new password for use with your iCloud services, then click the OK button.
That’s all there is to it. Your new password should be active on your Mac user account.

I’ve been recommending that folks wait for a while before installing the update to Windows 11 to allow Microsoft time to squash all the major bugs. I believe they have now been squashed.
• Q&A: How can I hide a category from my blog’s home page?
A reader wants to know how prevent the posts in one specific category from being posted on the blog’s front page. This post explains how.
