Today’s featured tech tip….
Facebook now offering Creators help for login issues via live chat
One of the most frustrating things about Facebook has always been the complete lack of help the company provides for users who end up getting locked out of their accounts for some reason.
Yes, Facebook does provide an account recovery tool (which you can only access if you aren’t logged in) but as I explained here, it’s less than useless for many common situations.
But it appears that could be about to change…
Facebook is currently testing a service with which they’ll assist users who are locked out of their accounts via a live chat session.
If this test ends up panning out it could be a game-changer for folks dealing with stubborn login issues.
As Facebook said in this announcement post, this new live chat service is primarily aimed at creators (i.e. people who use the Facebook platform to create and disseminate long-form content).
But then they also said this:
“On the Facebook App specifically, we’ve also started testing live chat help for some English-speaking users globally, including creators, who’ve been locked out of their accounts. This first test focuses on those who cannot access their accounts due to unusual activity or whose accounts have been suspended due to a violation of Community Standards. This will be the first time Facebook has offered live help for people locked out of their accounts.”
Notice the phrase “English-speaking users globally, including creators“. I take that to mean if all goes well, they’ll eventually expand this service to all English-speaking users, and eventually to all users worldwide.
Notice also that this live chat help won’t be available to laptop and desktop computer users. You’ll need to use the Facebook mobile app in order to take advantage of it, but that could well change at some point too.
Bottom line: It appears that real help might soon be on the way for folks who are unable to log into their Facebook accounts. And in my humble opinion, it’s long overdue.
