Today’s featured tech tip….
Try this first when your Windows PC freezes up
Have you ever had your Windows PC just stop responding to clicks on your Desktop icons and the icons in the Taskbar? I have too, and it seems like it always happens at the worst possible time.
Well here’s a little tip that just might have your machine back up and running normally in seconds without having to perform an Emergency Restart (which would cause you to lose all of your unsaved work)…
Many common freeze-ups happen when something goes haywire with the Windows Explorer process, the part of Windows that manages most of the things you see and do while using your PC.
Luckily, it’s very easy to simply restart the Windows Explorer process and avoid having to use the Emergency Restart procedure to forcibly restart the machine. Here’s how:
1 – Press the Ctrl+Shift+Esc key combination to open the Task Manager.
2 – Type the word explorer into the search box at the top of the Task Manager window.
3 – Right-click on Windows Explorer at the bottom of the “Processes” column, then select Restart from the drop-down menu.
That’s all there is to it. If all went well you should now be able to use your PC as you normally do.
