Question from Keenan R.: My 3 year old ThinkPad X230 2320HQU laptop won’t charge the battery past 10% no matter how long I leave it plugged in.
If I try to use the laptop while it’s running from on battery, it shuts off after just a few seconds. It runs fine with the charger plugged in, the battery just refuses to charge up.
How can I tell whether the problem is caused by the battery or the charger? If possible, I need to get it fixed ASAP. Thanks.
Rick’s answer: Keenan, your laptop almost certainly has a bad battery. There are two reasons why I believe that to be the case:
1 – The laptop is three years old, and many laptop batteries don’t even last that long.
2 – The charger is putting out enough current to keep the laptop running, so it’s a good bet that it’s putting out enough to charge the battery too.
I’m afraid you ‘ll need to replace the battery if you want to use your laptop in places where you won’t be able to plug it in.
Fortunately, replacement batteries for the ThinkPad X230 2320HQU aren’t all that expensive. You’ll find a good selection of them at Amazon, and you might even be able to find one locally if you don’t mind paying a little more.
I hope this helps Keenan. Good luck!
