How to connect a Bluetooth device to your Chromebook
Chromebooks are excellent machines for folks who primarily do everything online, but most of them do have one serious limitation…
Most Chromebooks are only equipped with one or two USB ports. And that can be a problem if you need to connect a mouse, an external keyboard, a pair of external speakers, a microphone or most any other type of accessory.
But luckily there’s a simple way around this limitation. All you have to do is select accessories that are capable of connecting via Bluetooth.
The first thing you need to do is check to make sure your Chromebook supports Bluetooth devices (most of them do these days).
You can quickly do that by clicking on the Time display in the lower-right corner of the screen and look for the Bluetooth icon. If you see it, you’re golden.
Once you’ve established that your Chromebook has Bluetooth capability you can follow the steps below to connect your Bluetooth device(s) to it:
1 – Click on the Time display in the lower-right corner of the screen, then click the Settings icon (it looks like a “gear“).
2 – Scroll down and click Bluetooth.
3 – If Bluetooth is currently set to Off, toggle it to On.
4 – Place the device you want to connect via Bluetooth into Pairing Mode (you’ll need to consult the documentation that came with the device for instructions for doing this).
5 – Look for the name of the device to pop up in the “Unpaired devices” section. Once it pops up, click on it.
6 – Now look for a pop-up message telling you the device is connected. Once you see that message, you’re done.
