Today’s featured tech tip….
Why many security pros advise against frequent password changes
For years most online security pros recommended changing your passwords on a regular basis.
What’s more, many companies’ IT departments actually force the company’s employees to change their passwords at regular intervals.
But recent research into password security has caused many of those security pros to change their minds about frequent password changes.
Why? Because frequent password changes cause many users to choose passwords that are really short and easy to remember, rendering the new passwords less secure than they should be.
After all, it isn’t easy to come up with multiple unique passwords on a regular basis and then commit them to memory.
The recommended approach these days is to choose a long (and therefore strong) password and augment it by enabling Two-Factor Authentication whenever possible.
To finish up, here’s another quick tip…
I don’t recommend the use of password managers, and I never will. Read a couple of these posts and you’ll know why.
