How to force your browser to load the latest version of a web page
Have you ever loaded a page in your web browser only to discover that the displayed page is out-of-date?
Many websites update some or all of their pages on a regular basis, and when that happens an older version of a page might get “stuck” in the browser cache.
If you try to load that “stuck” page the browser will attempt to retrieve it from the cache first in order to save a little time.
The problem is, if the cached version of the page is older than the version that’s currently on the website, you’ll end up seeing the older, out-of-date page instead of the latest version.
Luckily, there’s a very easy way (at least on a computer) to force your browser to skip the cache altogether and load the page directly from the website’s server. That will guarantee that you’ll end up seeing the latest (i.e. current) version of the page.
All it takes is pressing a simple key combination on your computer’s keyboard…
If you use Chrome, Firefox, or Edge on a Windows PC, just press Ctrl+F5.
If you use Safari on a Mac, press Command+Option+E. (Note: If your keyboard doesn’t have an Option key, press Command+Alt+E instead.)
If you use Chrome or Firefox on a Mac, press Command+Shift+R.
If you use a browser on a mobile device you’ll need to manually clear that browser’s cache via the browser app’s Settings. Just scroll through the Settings until you find that option.
