Today’s quick tech tip….
Reminder: Notepad is great for, well…taking notes.
There are plenty of powerful third-party note-taking apps out there, but I don’t use any of them.
Why? Well, because I prefer using Notepad.
Yeah, I know. Notepad is a dinosaur in the Windows world. In fact, it’s been riding Windows’ coat-tails ever since the 1980s.
But I happen to love Notepad, for the following reasons:
1 – Notepad is fast.
There’s probably no other app on a Windows PC that opens up and becomes ready to use faster than Notepad.
I keep a desktop shortcut for it on my screen at all times. When I want to make a quick note of something I just click that icon, and boom…there it is.
Tip: You can also pin Notepad’s icon to the Start menu…
Just click the Start button and type the word notepad. Then right-click on Notepad in the search results and select Pin to Start.
2 – Notepad is simple.
Notepad doesn’t have a thousand options hidden 62 levels deep in about 37 menus. In fact, there are so few options that I committed them all to memory years ago.
3 – Notepad works. Always.
I can’t recall ever trying to quickly jot something down in Notepad only to encounter some glitchy issue that prevented me from getting the job done in a hurry.
Open Notepad and start typing.
It works. Always.
Bottom line: When I need to make a quick note of something I just open Notepad and start typing. I’m usually done in no time flat and I don’t have to bother with cumbersome nested menus and tons of options.
How about you? Are you a Notepad fan as well?
I’d love to hear how you use it. Just click the Reply button on this email and tell me about it.
