Today’s featured tech tip….
Why you should keep your vacation plans to yourself
Well, it’s that time of year again. The official start of summer is just a few days away and that means families everywhere will soon be hitting the roads for their summer vacations.
How about you and your family? Are you making plans to load up your car and head to the beach or some other vacation hotspot?
If so, you might want to keep that info to yourself until after you return home.
Burglars love to target the empty homes of vacationers, and nowadays they find their victims via social media.
I know how tempting it can be to post something like “We’re all packed up and heading to the airport to catch our flight to Aruba. See you all in two weeks!”
The problem is, that kind of post is more or less a billboard telling the burglars in your area that your house is going to be unoccupied for the next two weeks.
And those photos of you and the kids splashing around in the warm waters of the Caribbean? Well, they’re just as bad because they provide visual proof that you’re a very long way from home at the moment.
Bottom line: In today’s Internet-connected world it’s a lot safer to enjoy your vacation in private and then post the celebratory pics after you get back home. Just sayin’.
