Today’s featured tech tip….
How to remove your Google profile picture
Have you ever noticed how Google displays your profile picture every time you sign in to most any Google service?
Well here’s something you might not know…
Your profile picture is “public”, which means any other Google user can see it as well in certain situations, including people you don’t know and have never interacted with in any way.
Most folks aren’t really concerned about strangers seeing their profile picture.
What’s more, they actually like having their profile picture displayed on Google screens because it lets them know with just a quick glance whether they’re signed into their Google account or not.
However, some folks think it’s creepy, and perhaps even dangerous to have their profile picture visible to strangers the world over.
If this is something that concerns you as well, I’m afraid Google doesn’t provide a way to change who is allowed to see your profile picture. Like I said, it’s “public” and there is no setting you can use to change that.
But if you really want to prevent others from seeing your profile picture you can simply remove it altogether, which will of course “hide” it from everyone (including yourself).
If you’d like to do that simply follow the steps below:
Note: This can only be done via a web browser (either on a computer or on a mobile device). There is no way to remove your profile picture via the Google app.
1 – Visit https://www.google.com/ and sign into your account.
2 – Click (or tap) your profile picture in the top-right corner of the Google window.
3 – Click Manage your Google Account.
4 – In the left-hand pane, click Personal Info.
5 – In the “Basic info” section, click on your profile picture.
6 – Click Remove, then click Remove again to confirm that you really want to remove your profile picture from your Google account.
That’s it, you’re done. From now on no Google user will be able to see your profile picture (because it’s gone). And yes, that includes you.
