Today’s featured tech tip….
How to exclude an unwanted website from a Google search
Have you ever done a Google search and had Google respond with multiple pages from a site that you have no interest in visiting?
Well, you can easily exclude an unwanted site from the search results for any term by adding the – (minus sign) operator to the search.
For example, if you search for the term music the first several search results will be nothing but links to YouTube.
If you’re looking for articles and other non-video information on music all those YouTube links are just in the way.
However, if you repeat the search and add -youtube.com that will block all links to YouTube from the search results list.
To see this in action, visit Google.com search for the following term:
music
See all those YouTube links at the top of the search results? Now, type this into the search box:
music -youtube.com
Notice how there aren’t any YouTube links at all in the search results now.
By the way, you can use this – (minus sign) operator to block links to any website from the Google search results pages. Simply append the – (minus sign) and the domain name of the site you want to block to the search term and you’ll be in business.
