How to stop Google from tracking your web activity and location history
Did you know Google is constantly collecting your web and app activity as well as your location data?
Plenty of folks don’t see that non-stop data collection as a problem, but lots of others do.
If you fall into the “I’d rather not have Google tracking my every move camp” you can easily force them to stop. Just follow the steps below:
To get started, visit https://myactivity.google.com/myactivity and log in to your Google account (if requested to do so).
You should now see a box on the screen containing “Web & App Activity”, “Location History” and “YouTube History”.
Next, turn off Web & App Activity…
1 – Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and click Web & App Activity.
2 – Click the Turn Off button.
4 – Scroll down to read the message in the box, then click the Pause button.
5 – Click the Got it button.
6 – Close the current browser tab to return to the “My Google Activity” page.
Now, turn off Location History…
1 – Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and click Location History.
2 – Click the Turn Off button.
3 – Scroll down to read the message in the box, then click the Pause button.
4 – Click the Got it button.
5 – Close the current browser tab to return to the “My Google Activity” page.
And finally, turn off YouTube History…
Note: Turning off YouTube History will prevent YouTube from displaying any of your previous YouTube activities. Take that into account before you decide to actually turn it off.
1 – Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and click YouTube History.
2 – Click the Turn Off button.
3 – Scroll down to read the message in the box, then click the Pause button.
4 – Click the Got it button.
5 – Close the current browser tab to return to the “My Google Activity” page.
6 – Close the “My Google Activity page.
That’s all there is to it. Google should no longer collect you web and app activity or your location data.
