Today’s quick tech tip….
How to quickly find most any setting on your iPhone or iPad
As you probably know, iPhones and iPads have dozens of setting tucked away in the Settings app, many of which you might want to tweak in order to make the device work more to your liking.
You could always just work your way through the Settings app’s menus until you find the setting you’re looking for, but if you know what the setting is called you can find it in seconds using the app’s Search tool.
For example, let’s say you want to turn off “Background App Refresh” to prevent the apps on your device from updating themselves in the background in order to preserve battery life.
You can quickly go directly to that setting by searching for it by name.
Or perhaps you’d like to use “VPN & Device Management” to configure a VPN. Yep, you can search for that by name as well.
But what if you don’t know the exact name of the setting you need?
No problem – just search for the primary keyword instead. In fact, just searching for the primary keyword by itself will usually get you to the setting you need even faster than typing the entire name of the setting.
For example, searching for the terms “refresh” or “VPN would bring the setting you’re looking for right up in the search results.
As you can see, the Settings app’s Search tool is a really powerful timesaver. Here’s how to use it:
1 – Open the Settings app by tapping the “gear-shaped” Settings icon.
2 – From the Settings app’s main screen, swipe down from the top of the screen to display the app’s Search box.
3 – Tap inside the Search box to display the on-screen keyboard.
4 – Type the name of the setting into the Search box.
Note: If you don’t know the actual name of the setting just type in the primary keyword.
5 – Scan the list of search results and tap on the setting you need to tweak.
That’s all there is to it. The setting you selected should now be open on the screen, ready and waiting for you to make a selection of some sort.
