Today’s quick tech tip….
How to quickly recover from an errant click or keystroke
Have you ever accidentally clicked on something or pressed a key that you didn’t intend to press and end up having to try to figure out how to fix the damage?
Or perhaps your cat decided to take a stroll across your keyboard or your toddler decided to do a little typing of their own?
Well depending on what happened, it might be possible to restore the screen back to the way it was prior to the errant click or keypress simply by pressing the Ctrl+Z key combination on your Windows PC or Command+Z on your Mac.
Ctrl+Z and Command Z are arguably the most useful keyboard shortcuts you can use because they immediately undo the last action you took, returning things to the way they were before you made the errant click or hit the wrong (or even unknown) key.
To be sure, this trick won’t work every time, especially if several errant actions took place in a row (that rascally cat!), but it has saved my bacon numerous times in the past.
The next time you make an errant click, press a wrong key or just notice that something strange just happened, don’t panic. Take a deep breath and press Ctrl+Z (or Command+Z) and see what happens.
It can’t hurt anything to try since all it can do is undo the last thing you did, but if you’re lucky it just might save you hours of retyping.
