Today’s Quick Tip….
My favorite OCR app for Macs
Someone emailed me the other day and asked me to recommend a good Optical Character Recognition (OCR) app for their Mac, with ease of use being their primary concern.
If you’re unfamiliar with OCR technology, it’s been around for several decades now.
In a nutshell, OCR tools are used to retrieve the text that’s printed on images and other non-selectable text items that typically can’t be “copied” by traditional means.
For example, one common use of OCR would be to electronically “read” the text from something like a printed magazine article and save the retrieved text in a file that could then be edited, printed or otherwise used just like any other text file.
There are many OCR apps for the Mac to choose from, but my favorite by far is TextSniper. If you’re in need of a powerful OCR tool that’s super-easy to use, this is the one I recommend.
TextSniper is very affordable, and it’s worth every penny in my humble opinion.
In case you’re wondering if TextSniper collects information from your Mac, it doesn’t. No info is collected for any purpose. This app just does what it’s supposed to do, and it does it extremely well.
Of course there are many free OCR apps to choose from as well. You’ll find a list of some of the best ones right here.
