Today’s quick tech tip….
Q&A: How do I manually set the time zone on my iPhone?
Question from Rita: I travel a lot for work and I carry two iPhones, one for official work-related business (that’s supplied by my employer) and my personal iPhone that I use for all my personal calls, texts and such.
Our IT guy set the company iPhone to automatically adjust the time zone based on my current location. That’s fine, but I want my personal iPhone to always show the local time for my home base of Baltimore.
How can I set that phone’s time zone manually to Baltimore, MD time and keep it from changing while I’m traveling?
Rick’s answer: I’ll be glad to help you with this, Rita. Truth be told, it’s just a simple settings change.
1 – Open the Settings app on your personal iPhone.
2 – Tap General.
3 – Tap Date & Time.
4 – Toggle the “Set Automatically” setting to Off.
5 – Tap Time Zone.
6 – Type Baltimore into the search box, then select Baltimore, U.S.A. from the search results.
7 – Tap the left-facing arrow repeatedly until you’ve returned to the Settings app’s home screen, then exit the Settings app.
That’s all there is to it. The time zone on your personal iPhone should now always remain set to Baltimore regardless of where you happen to travel to.
Note: In this case Baltimore was actually listed as an option when you searched for it.
If you ever have occasion to search for a smaller local that doesn’t come up in the search results, simply choose a larger city that you know to be located in the same time zone.
For example, I live in rural Virginia so I could simply select New York since I know it’s in the same time zone as my local community.
