Question from Betty H.: I have an unwanted program on my computer that’s driving me crazy and I can’t figure out how to uninstall it.
The program in question is called SmartTweak UpdateMyDrivers, and I hate it!
I have no idea how this program got on my computer and the Windows uninstaller won’t remove it. What can I do to get rid of it?
Rick’s answer: Betty, I’ve dealt with SmartTweak a number of times, and it’s an annoyance to be sure. Many IT security experts consider SmartTweak to be malware, and I tend to agree since I consider ANY program that you can’t remove with the standard Windows uninstaller to be malware.
And in my humble opinion, the term malware also applies to software that finds its way onto your computer without your knowledge and consent. SmartTweak meets both of the aforementioned criteria.
Fortunately, you can easily remove SmartTweak with an excellent free third-party uninstaller utility called Geek Uninstaller. I like Geek Uninstaller so much that I never even bother using the standard Windows uninstaller utility anymore.
Just follow the instructions on this page to download and install Geek Uninstaller, then use it to remove SmartTweak UpdateMyDrivers.
