A few days ago I started getting messages from folks asking why Firefox had suddenly started forcing them to sign in to their online accounts every time they open their browser.
I checked in to it and discovered that a Firefox software update had apparently enabled the setting that clears the browser history every time Firefox is closed, automatically signing users out of any accounts they were signed into when they closed the browser.
If this is happening to you there’s a very easy fix:
1 – Open Firefox and click the three horizontal lines icon in the top-right corner of the window.
2 – Click Settings.
3 – In the left-hand pane, click Privacy & Security.
4 – In the right-hand pane, scroll down to the “History” section and uncheck the box beside Clear history when Firefox closes.
5 – Click the X in the top right corner of the Firefox window to close the browser.
That’s all there is to it. Firefox should no longer automatically sign you out of your accounts every time you close the browser.
Important: If you choose to stay signed into your online accounts at all times that will mean anyone who ever gains access to your computer will also have immediate and complete access to your accounts, and that includes any hacker that can somehow manage to take control of your machine (even remotely).
It also includes any computer tech (the vast majority of which are completely honest) who ever performs any type of work on your computer.
For this reason I always sign out of my own accounts every time I’m finished using them, but you are certainly free to remain signed into yours if you feel that’s the right choice for you.
