Does it seem like it takes forever for your Start Menu to display after you click the Start Button? There are several things that affect the speed of your menus that are beyond your control, but there is one that you can control with a simple Registry hack.
Important: Editing the Windows Registry can render your system unstable or even unable to boot up properly if something happens to go wrong. That’s why if you choose to follow the instructions below you do so at your own risk.
You also agree that it won’t be my fault if you begin having three birthdays a year, your car gets damaged by an out-of-control shopping cart in the WalMart parking lot, or your PC becomes unstable or refuses to boot up properly.
If you agree with everything I just said in the preceding paragraphs, follow the steps below to speed up your Windows Start Menu:
1 – Create a System Restore Point just in case something goes wrong. Click here for instructions.
2 – Press the Windows+R key combination, then type regedit into the Run box and press the Enter key.
3 – Create a backup of the Registry by clicking File>Export, then giving the backup file a name and clicking Save.
4 – Navigate to this Registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Control Panel>Desktop
5 – Click on Desktop to display a list of registry keys in the right-hand pane.
6 – Right-click on MenuShowDelay and click Modify.
7 – Change the number 400 in the text box to 20, then click Ok.
8 – Click File>Exit.
Your Start Menu should now display faster than it did before. Keep in mind that although it made a dramatic difference on my PC, your mileage may vary! Good luck!
