Are you a Stay-At-Home Mom?
If so, rest assured that you are doing the most important job you will ever do in your entire life.
Trust me, you will never regret dedicating your time, talents and motherly love to your kids during the most impressionable times of their lives.
That being said, you can still use your time at home with your kids to earn a good home-based income while still doing everything you need to do as a mom.
All you need to do is start a blog!
I know what you’re probably thinking…
- “I’m not a writer, therefore I could never succeed as a blogger.”
- “I can write, but I don’t know the first thing about blogging.”
- “I’d love to start a blog, but setting one up has to be both difficult and expensive.”
- “What in the world would I write about?”
- “As busy as I am taking care of my kids, how would I ever find the time to write a blog post?”
- “Even if I could learn how to blog, how would I make any money doing it?”
If any of the above apply to you, please allow me to explain why your fears and doubts are unfounded. I’ll deal with each of the above questions in turn…
“I’m not a writer, therefore I could never succeed as a blogger.”
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to be a great writer to be a successful blogger. While it certainly helps, being able to use perfect grammar and proper punctuation isn’t anywhere near as important as simply being able to get your points across to your readers.
Some of the most successful bloggers out there speak (and write) English as a second language, and their blog posts are far from grammatically perfect. Yet their blogs are successful because they’re passionate about the topics they write about and they know how to get their messages across to their readers.
“I can write, but I don’t know the first thing about blogging.”
Another common misconception is that blogging is some mysterious form of writing that only the most tech-savvy among us can be successful at. The truth is, writing a blog post is only a tad more difficult than typing up a status update on Facebook.
Once you have your blog set up and running, writing your blog posts is about as simple as typing a string of sentences into a text box. In fact, that’s exactly what you’ll be doing. Your blog’s “back end” will handle all the technical things for you. All you have to do is write!
“I’d love to start a blog, but setting one up has to be both difficult and expensive.”
Truth be told, you can set up an income-producing blog for just $5.
Yes, you read that right – you can create your very own money-making blog for just five bucks! This post explains how, step-by-step.
The post at the link above explains how to get a domain name (i.e. example.com) for $4.99 and your first month of blog hosting for a penny!
After the first month you’ll pay just a few bucks per month for the hosting and about $20 per year for your domain name. Not bad when you consider that your blog could potentially earn you a decent income just for sharing your thoughts with the world.
Once you have your domain name and blog hosting account, you can set up your own WordPress blog in as little as 5 minutes (again, the post I linked to above explains how). In as little as 5 minutes you could be writing your very first blog post!
“What in the world would I write about?”
While this might seem like the most baffling thing about starting a blog, it’s really pretty simple. Just write about what interests you!
Since you’re a Stay-At-Home Mom, you might be interested in sharing the things you’ve learned while tending to your children with new mothers. In other words, you could use your own expertise to help new moms build and expand theirs.
Another option is to write about things that might interest other women, whether they are moms or not. You could write about the latest fashions, diamond rings, household tips, frugality, women’s health issues… The possibilities are endless.
What’s more, you don’t have to blog about “women’s issues” at all if something else interests you. You could write about personal finance, politics, technology or any other topic that you find interesting and engaging.
You don’t have to be an expert in your chosen topic either. You can easily research your post ideas on Google, then relay what you learned to your readers through your blog posts.
“As busy as I am taking care of my kids, how would I ever find the time to write a blog post?”
That’s a legitimate question, and it’s one that only you can answer.
Let me just say this: I know of plenty of stay-at-home moms who are raising multiple children while still finding a few minutes here and there to do some research and write a blog post. And they’re making good money at it too.
“Even if I could learn how to blog, how would I make any money doing it?”
Once you have visitors coming to your blog, there are a number of ways you can “monetize” your blog traffic:
1 – Sell advertising space on your blog.
2 – Promote products on your blog by reviewing them and then earn affiliate commissions on the sales of those products. Many companies will actually send you items to test and review, and most of the time you’ll get to keep the items after the posts are published!
3 – Post sponsored posts and reviews where you get paid simply for writing the post and giving your honest opinion about the products. And as in #2 above, you’ll end up getting to keep many of the items you write about!
4 – You can sign up for Google Adsense and earn cash every time a visitor clicks on one of your Adsense link – whether they end up buying or not.
As you can see, you’ll have several options available to you when it comes time to decide how you wish to earn money from your blog.
Check out these outstanding blogs to get an idea of what’s possible if you have the desire and dedication required to make it happen:
- Twins Mommy – Elna is a millennial mom to twins. Her blog would be an excellent place to start reading because its purpose is to help other mom bloggers succeed.
- A Little Pinch Of Perfect – Katie is a mother of two who writes about most anything that could possibly interest a mom.
- Balancing Home – Megan is a mother of four who writes about a wide variety of family-related topics. Her mission statement says it all: “To help you create the life you deserve, in simple steps.“
These blogs are fairly representative of the types of blogs being written and monetized every day by moms just like you.
I do have a word of caution however: Please don’t get the impression that blogging is an easy way to make a ton of fast cash, because it isn’t.
Growing a successful blog takes time, and your results will depend entirely on how much time you’re able and willing to devote to it. But success IS within your reach.
Whether your goal is to make an extra $50 per month or a full-time living, it CAN be done if you really have the desire and determination to make it happen. After all, thousands of other stay-at-home moms are making money by blogging, so you can too!
Bottom line: I realize that not everyone wants to write for a living. If you’d rather find some other way to earn a home-based income while you’re staying at home with your kids, that’s perfectly fine. There are indeed other opportunities out there.
But if you enjoy learning and then sharing what you’ve learned with others, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more fulfilling and enjoyable way to earn some good money while serving as a stay-at-home mom than by becoming a blogger.
