In a time when it seems like we are blessed with Star Wars content every other day (thank you, Disney+), there’s no better time to finally sit down and see for yourself what the hype is all about.
Today’s tip is all about watching the Star Wars films the right way.
Especially if you’re new to the franchise and will be watching the films for the first time, the sheer amount of Star Wars releases out there can seem intimidating. But don’t worry – here’s the definitive guide to tackle the current sci-fi canon like a pro.
Recommended Viewing Order
How many films, spin-offs, and specials you will include in your marathon depends on how much of a Star Wars geek you intend to become.
One of the most fun things about diving into a new Universe is testing your knowledge of it afterwards. After the last credit roll, you can take tests such as PIA’s Star Wars quiz. You’ll discover how much of a fan you’ve become of this masterpiece franchise.
You can be sure there’s a lot to take in! I guarantee that your brain will be brimming with trivia and fun facts you’ll learn along the way.
One of the most popular ways to watch Star Wars, and the one I’ll recommend for you today, is below:
● Episode IV: A New Hope
● Andor
● Rogue One
● Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
● Episode I: The Phantom Menace
● Episode II: Attack of the Clones
● Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
● Obi-Wan Kenobi
● Solo
● Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
● The Mandalorian
● The Book of Boba Fett
● Episode VII: The Force Awakens
● Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
● Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker
I recommend this order because you will be able to avoid not only major spoilers but also the chaotic plot you would otherwise get if you watched the films, for example, in chronological order.
Assuming you want to watch as many releases as possible, the above list includes them all, even the latest Disney+ shows, such as the smash hit The Mandalorian. It was the first live-action show in the canon, and achieved 1.1 billion viewing minutes, as Variety reported in its third season – promising, right?
May The 4th Be With You
If you want to make the occasion even more special, you can always mark the Star Wars unofficial holiday, May the 4th, on your calendar and start your marathon then.
Celebrated since 1999, this date comes from the iconic line “May the Force be with you” from the first Star Wars release, “Star Wars: A New Hope,” as highlighted by the BBC. Since then, the date is usually marked with new releases, announcements, or other general news from the franchise.
You can expect plenty of new Star Wars content on Disney+ in the next few months. A particular release to look out for is “Star Wars: Ahsoka,” coming out in August 2023, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
