Today’s quick tech tip….
How to make sure your phone only auto-updates apps over WiFi
By default your Android phone will only auto-update the apps that are installed on it when it’s connected to the Internet via WiFi.
The thing is, this default setting can get changed at times without your knowledge, resulting in the phone downloading updates over the device’s cellular data connection if a WiFi connection isn’t available at the time.
That won’t be a problem in most cases, but it can be a big problem if you frequently exceed your cellular plan’s monthly data allotment.
If you have a limited data plan and your phone frequently exceeds its monthly data allotment, I recommend that you periodically check to make sure your phone is set to the “Update over WiFi only” setting. Here’s how to check:
1 – Launch the Play Store app.
2 – Tap the small thumbnail of your profile photo.
3 – Scroll down and tap Settings.
4 – Tap Network preferences.
5 – Tap Auto-update apps.
6 – Select Over Wi-Fi only if you see that it’s set to something different.
7 – Tap Done.
That’s all there is to it. Now you know for sure that your phone will only try to automatically update your apps when it’s connected via WiFi.
