Question from Ella: I’m a member of over a dozen Facebook groups that I joined using my personal Facebook account. I also have a business page that I use to promote my poetry blog.
I’d like to join those groups using my business page and close my personal account, but I can’t find a way to join the groups while I’m signed into my page.
Simple question: How do I re-join my groups using my Facebook page instead of my personal account?
Rick’s answer: Ella, you’re not alone in wanting to access your Facebook groups while logged in under your page. In fact, this same question is asked repeatedly in various Internet forums that I participate in.
Unfortunately, Facebook only allows us to join groups while logged into a personal account. I don’t know for sure why they have this policy, but I’m guessing they believe folks would use the groups to post SPAM messages to their fellow group members.
I’m sure there are indeed people out there who would abuse their Facebook privileges in that way, but people abuse their accounts in so many other ways that this one seems a bit trivial to me since the group administrators can always simply block those who engage in SPAMMING.
Bottom line: I’m afraid you’ll have to keep using your personal account if you wish to remain a member of your Facebook groups.
