Do you or someone you know use the popular “Ever” photo storage app?
If so, you need to know that according to this NBC News story the company behind the app is using your photos for face recognition purposes!
The company says they’re only using their customers’ photos to “train” the app, but who knows what’s really going on behind the scenes?
In case you’re wondering, Ever is completely within their legal rights to use your photos in this way because the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy that you agreed to when you installed the app grant them that right.
That’s why it’s so very important to always carefully read and understand an app’s TOS and Privacy Policy before agreeing to install the app!
It’s also why I posted this as a “warning” instead of as a “Scam Alert” (it isn’t actually a scam because users of the app agree to the odious terms when they install the app).
Bottom line: If you use the “Ever” photo storage app and you value your privacy (and the privacy of the other people in your photos), you might want to consider removing the app from your device.
And if you have any friends or relatives who use the app you might want to share this info with them so they can consider removing it as well.
